Like other types of doctors, chiropractors meet stringent licensing requirements, follow a strict code of ethics, and are approved by government agencies. Chiropractic is scientific. Specific technique protocols are used to locate malfunctioning areas of the spine. As sophisticated diagnostic equipment becomes more available, researchers are affirming what chiropractic doctors have known all along – chiropractic works!
Chiropractic adjustments make sense. Like lifting a heavy rock off your toe, most patients report their chiropractic adjustment feel good. When the bones of the spine return to a more normal motion and position, nervous system function can be restored, symptoms relieved, and the natural healing process can proceed.
Chiropractic is safe. Safer than back surgery, muscle relaxers, aspirin or ibuprofen. Even newborns and children can receive chiropractic care.
Continue as long as you want. Like regular dental checkups, once patients experience the value of chiropractic, many choose to continue. How long you decide to benefit from chiropractic care is always up to you. The truth is, chiropractic is a conservative, drug-free approach to better health that has helped millions of people since 1895.
Myths vs. Truth
Because of philosophical differences, misunderstandings and economic competition, countless myths have circulated about chiropractic. Chiropractic doctors are well educated. Based on contemporary research findings, improved technology and educational standards, more people are choosing chiropractic care every day.
The Chiropractic Lifestyle
Chiropractors are experts in the care of the bones, nerves, muscles and connective tissues that make up about 60% of you body. All of the joints in the body are part of this musculo-skeletal system and its optimal function is necessary for overall good health. Ask us for more information about a care program that may include specific spinal adjustments, exercise recommendations, nutritional advice or other conservative methods of care based on your health history, age current condition and lifestyle.

It is a myth that a child’s odd-shaped head is no issue and that it will fix itself with time. However, odd shape can be the first indication that your child is susceptible to developmental delay. A misshapen head is not merely a cosmetic issue, it is a brain stem issue. If your child’s head looks uneven or you notice flat areas, this can indicate restrictions between the skull and the soft layers that cover the brain and spinal cord. A healthy brain requires good movement of the skull and spine, when this movement is impaired, brain and nerve function are also impaired.
Sometimes children have nerve and spinal distress that results in their head being tilted to one side so that one ear sits higher than the other. At other times a child’s head may be rotated or turned more to one side, so that they display a preference for having their head turned this way.”
Whether your child’s head is odd-shaped or not and whether their head sits unevenly or not it is best to have their skeletal system checked as early as possible by a Chiropractor. Our focus is not aesthetics – their aim is to help increase the neurological function of your child.

Today women have become increasingly concerned about their health during pregnancy. Eating healthy foods as well as avoidance of alcohol, caffeine and cigarettes are to be congratulated. Today’s’ mothers are more aware of how prenatal care effects fetal health. Chiropractic care is an integral part of prenatal care.
During pregnancy a women’s body releases many hormones. One of these is Relaxin which purposely reduces ligament tension. This has the effect of “relaxing” or loosening the ligaments and allowing more movement of the structures to which they are connected. This is necessary because of the many postural changes that occur during pregnancy.
A women’s center of gravity changes due to the increase in weight and the size and position of the fetus. Not only do the ligaments of the spine become relaxed, but so do the ligaments of the pelvis to allow for stretching during delivery. The curve in the lower back increases during pregnancy and may cause back and leg pain.
All of these changes make the spine more flexible and therefore less stable. This can be compounded by an already unstable spine. Since all nervous system control flows through the spine, chiropractic care is a necessity in maintaining proper control of body functions thru spinal health. Many symptoms such as back pain, leg pain and morning sickness can be helped with chiropractic care. Chiropractic care will help to normalize the functions of the nervous system and improve overall health. Optimal functioning of the mother’s body directly influences the proper development of the fetus.
Chiropractic features many different techniques. Modifications to chiropractic techniques and equipment during different the stages of pregnancy make adjustments for pregnant women gentle and comfortable. Many women report that deliveries were shorter and more comfortable than those before chiropractic care. A properly functioning nervous system is an integral part of total health during pregnancy to reduce stress on the spine and pelvis as well as producing healthier infants.

The two conditions most commonly cared for by chiropractors are joint dysfunctions, which chiropractors refer to as “subluxations,” and headaches. Some of the other conditions often seen are muscular strains or tears, degenerative joint disease, peripheral neuritis or neuralgia, tendonitis, high or low blood pressure, sprain or dislocation of joints, allergies, scoliosis and bursitis. Other conditions sometimes seen include osteoporosis, nutritional disorders, carpal or tarsal tunnel syndrome and TMJ syndrome, to name a few.

A study in the November 7, 2005 issue of the Journal of Vertebral Subluxation Research finds that patients diagnosed with clinical depression experienced a “highly significant” level of improvement in their depression symptoms after a short round of chiropractic care to correct small misalignments of the spinal bones know as vertebral subluxation. In the study, 15 patients from around the country who were diagnosed as clinically depressed were put under chiropractic care. The study subjects were given the Beck Depression Inventory II (BDI-II) survey to determine the extent of their depression before and after the chiropractic care.
The BDI-II is a questionnaire designed to measure the presence and severity of depression in people 13 or older and is one of the most widely used standards of psychological measures.
In the study, specific attention was paid to the first vertebra in the spine, know as the upper cervical (neck) region. The researchers limited their communication with their patient during the procedures to decrease the possibility of placebo effect. No other relaxation or therapeutic methods such as heat or massage were used in order to decrease the number of variables that might affect the outcomes.
Before the patients had chiropractic care, the mean BDI-II score was 17. After the chiropractic care, the mean score had decreased to 8 (lower is better). 11 of the 15 patients showed marked improvement after care.
The authors of this study report that historically, the interest in the effect chiropractic care has on mental health started in the 1920’s. Indeed, two chiropractic psychiatric hospitals ran successfully for almost thirty years in Davenport, lowa. Unfortunately when those hospitals closed in the 1950’s most of the patient records were destroyed. Clinical observations during that time suggested that chiropractic was at least as successful as state psychiatric facilities.
